ATTARI-WAGAH BORDER CEREMONY

 


Wagah border is located approximately thirty km from Amritsar, Wagah is the only road border crossing that runs among India and Pakistan. Every evening, the border becomes a ceremonial floor before sunset and draws the attention of the tourist. It is the time while troops belonging to both nations have interaction in Beating Retreat and Change of Guard ceremonies. It is an everyday exercise while the lowering of the national flag takes place on both sides of the border by the soldiers, followed by complicated and short military exercises. This exercise has been persevering with since 1959. The complete ceremony is a colourful treat for the visitors. Since seats aren't reserved, do get there at least one hour earlier than the ceremony starts.

This place is located between Attari village (India) and Wagah village (Pakistan) on the international border. The Beating Retreat and the Change of Guard within handshaking the Indian and Pakistani troops makes for a most attractive. Attari-Wagah, a Para-military outpost (BSF on India side & Pak Rangers on Pakistan side) on the Indo-Pak border – among Amritsar and Lahore, is a large compound of buildings, roads and barriers on both sides. 
Every day from both sides shows the exercise of the “Beating the Retreat” ceremony. BSF Pak Rangers from both nations march in the excellent drill, going through the steps and bringing down their individual national flags, while the sunset.
